Bible Society distributes food and Bible packages to needy Iraqis

 Beirut – LEBANON: The Bible Society has distributed hundreds of packages containing food items and Illustrated Bibles to needy Iraqis in Baghdad. This holistic initiative, for the second consecutive year, was organized by the Bible Society team in Baghdad in partnership with other Christian humanitarian agencies.

 The distribution took place during Holy Week, right before Easter celebrations. The distribution of these family packages took place from various church compounds in Baghdad. Announcements were made in the poor neighborhoods to visit the churches and receive the food packages and the Bibles. Hundreds of families flocked in to receive their packages, and more importantly, the Illustrated Bible. The church leaders were very encouraged that the Bible Society team chose their compounds as a center for this distribution. “We are overwhelmed with happiness to know that the Bible Society has decided to use our compound to distribute these much-needed food items and a Bible – to each family; it is saying so much about our ministry as members of the body of Christ.” said one church leader.

 Jordan-based Nabil Omeish, who is heading the Bible Society team in Iraq as the Program Coordinator, said: “It was a joyful service, where we were touched with an enormous blessing in this service. This distribution process was like a gift given by the Easter Bunny for the children. The joy was seen in the eyes of the elders as much as in the eyes of the children.” The Bible Society work in Iraq continues to grow with new distribution projects and holistic programs, always keeping a low profile due to security reasons.
