Bible Society hosts Catholic Biblical Federation meeting

 

Beirut-LEBANON: The Bible Society in Lebanon (BSL) hosted the periodical meeting of the Catholic Biblical Federation – Middle East (CBF-ME) – in the Bible Society Center on Saturday, September 24, 2005. The main reason for holding the meeting at the Bible Society was two-fold: To congratulate Mr. Mike Bassous on his appointment as General Secretary of BSL, and to discuss a program to honor the retired General Secretary, Rev. Lucien Accad, in February 2006.

 

The meeting commenced with a word of welcome from the host, Mr. Bassous, who also gave a short presentation about the Bible Society and its mission in the region. Father Ayoub Chahwan, Regional Coordinator for CBF-ME, expressed his gratitude towards BSL for the years of cooperation and partnership in the Bible cause, and presented Mr. Bassous with several gifts and publications as a token of appreciation for the strong relationship that exists between the two organizations. The agenda of the meeting also included discussing a program to honor Rev. Accad for his years of service in the Bible ministry; this will be held during the annual Biblical Studies seminars organized by CBF-ME in Antelias, Lebanon, February 21-23, 2006.

 

Father Chahwan shared a report about his recent visit to the Vatican and the Dei Verbum 40^th anniversary celebrations. He also mentioned that he met the UBS General Secretary, Rev. A. Miller Milloy in Rome and read an email from him commending the close ties between CBF-ME and BSL.

 

At the closing of the meeting, the participants visited the Bible Society bookshop and had a look at its recent Scripture productions and publishing.
